Insightful and thought provoking.
Dr. Hale has written one of the most innovative and useful versions of a "guidebook" that I have ever read. His book is full of personal insights, humor and empathy flowing from his own life experiences as a person "on the spectrum". At the same time, he presents valuable information derived from his own research as a recognized authority in the field and adds much good advice that parents and other caregivers will appreciate. The original illustrations add to the overall excellence of this book.

Dr. Hale's book is an excellent introduction to autism and Aspergers. He covers possible causes, symptoms and treatments including neuroanatomy, environmental influences, various teratogens, Fragile X and even Neanderthal ancestry as contributing factors to the phenotype. He makes the case for autism as a "whole body" disorder with distinct behavioral and physical signs (like the consistency of one's earwax...interested? Check it out!). If you or someone you love has autism or Aspergers you should get this book!
I enjoyed reading "The Insider's Guide to Autism and Asperger's" by Dr. Ian Hale PhD.. Dr. Hale's book is indeed interesting in a way that makes you think that “Perhaps one did not want to be loved so much as to be understood.” George Orwell, 1984 In addition, the book is easy to read and based on his own research and experiences. In my opinion, a great resource for parents of children with Autism. Thank you for sharing your story!
